Fabricating laminated glass assemblies for structural, impact-rated, and safety-critical applications

Laminated glass is produced by bonding two or more glass lites with an interlayer under heat and pressure. The interlayer holds the assembly together upon breakage and provides added structural performance, impact resistance, sound control, and design flexibility.

Clearlight fabricates laminated glass assemblies using multiple interlayer options depending on performance requirements, code compliance, and environmental exposure. We integrate laminated fabrication with in-house cutting, CNC machining, tempering, and finishing to maintain dimensional control and quality throughout the process.

We fabricate to specification for impact-rated and code-driven applications like SGCC and IGCC certifications.

Compliance & Code-Driven Applications

Laminated glass is commonly required by building codes for:

  • Hurricane and impact-rated windows and doors
  • Glass railings and guards
  • Stair systems
  • Safety glazing in commercial environments
  • Protective barrier systems

Clearlight fabricates laminated assemblies to meet required impact specifications. We currently fabricate to approved system specifications and testing requirements.

For fire-rated laminated door assemblies, we fabricate to required specifications and are exploring formal certification partnerships.

Interlayer Options

PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral)

PVB is the most common interlayer used in laminated safety glass. It is widely specified for hurricane and impact glazing, railings, office dividers, and general safety applications. PVB provides strong adhesion, post-breakage integrity, and sound dampening performance.

EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)

EVA interlayers are often used in interior laminated applications and decorative assemblies. EVA performs well in enclosed environments and allows for specialty inserts, color layers, and design-driven projects.

Ionoplast (TSG)

Ionoplast interlayers (commonly referenced as TSG) offer higher structural performance and rigidity compared to traditional PVB. These assemblies are frequently specified for exterior structural glazing, high-load applications, and projects requiring enhanced post-breakage strength.

Clearlight is actively fabricating with ionoplast interlayers for exterior structural use.

Extended Laminated Capabilities

In addition to standard safety laminates, Clearlight supports:

  • Digitally printed laminated glass
  • Decorative color interlayers
  • Privacy interlayers
  • Laminated furniture glass assemblies up to 2” thick

Example Usage, Applications & Environments

  • Hurricane windows and doors
  • Impact-resistant commercial glazing
  • Glass railings and stair systems
  • Office partitions and interior dividers
  • Decorative splash guards and architectural panels
  • Structural exterior glazing
